Police closed off Deepdale Road in Preston for more than two hours this afternoon after a woman fell from a bridge.

Officers say the woman fell onto a disused railway line suffering serious injuries to her arm.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at around 3:20pm this afternoon to a concern for the safety of a woman near a bridge on Deepdale Road, Preston.

"Officers attended, but around 4:40pm, the woman sadly came off the bridge, landing on some disused railway lines below.

"Unfortunately, she has suffered an injury to her arm."

One eye witness said: "Police are everywhere," he said. "They have closed off Deepdale Road completely."

The road re-opened at 5:45. It is believed the woman was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.
