The modern extension on the railway line side of the disused Park Hotel overlooking Miller and Avenham Parks, on East Cliff, Preston, is being knocked down. Meanwhile, the original red-brick hotel building, which has hosted the Prince of Wales (later to become King Edward VII), as well as Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin and entertainer Gracie Fields, will remain intact and will be refurbished.
Lancashire County Council’s pension fund acquired the hotel site in 2016 and has approved plans for it to be returned to its original use. A new pavilion, spa and a replacement office building will also be created.
The council plan to bring an operator in to run the business on completion.
