The 1970s as a decade was, of course, about far more than just disco music, hip-heavy dance moves, and questionable retro fashion choices.
In the UK, it was a time of discovery, violence, musical rebellion, and - ultimately - change in almost ever facet of modern life. From changes in currency and new governments to punk music, the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and widespread labour strikes, it was an eventful era to say the least.
With that in mind, take a look at some of our very best archive pictures of Preston life back in 1972 and 1973.
9. A spot of Polynesian sunshine sparkled for shoppers in Preston's shopping centre. And the temptation was too much for 75-year-old pensioner Mr John Owen, who, cloth cap and all, tried his hand at a spot of hula! 10. The thousand women who work at a Preston mail order firm had one complaint. There weren't enough males to order! After they had tackled operations manager, Mr John Gunning, about it, he thought he had better do something. So he invited comedian Jack Douglas to tour the firm's Tulketh Mill to cheer them up a bit
11. Preston sports clubs were hoping to have raised about £200 from their western-style barbecue, which proved a great success. Some 600 people devoured 1,000 rolls filled with fried egg, sausage and bacon, all cooked on an open fire at South Meadow Lane Sports and Social Club
