9. All kinds of sponsored fund-raising events, organised by teacher Mrs Jo Sweeney, have culminated in St John Fisher High School in Preston taking possession of a new mini-bus. Pictured is Father Edward Gould receiving the keys to the mini bus from Mr Arthur Dawson, a Harris trustee. A £4,500 Harris Charity donation helped them considerably to reach their goal of £11,000 for the bus

11. A group of young children have been beavering away to make a 450ft paper chain. They were sponsored for £100 which will be pledged to the Children in Need appeal. The eleven members of the 7th Preston beaver scout group, formed only six months ago, have spent the last money making the chain

12. The patter of three score tiny feet echoed around Hoghton, near Preston, as the village's pre-school youngsters set off on a sponsored toddle. The effort by the Gregson Lane mother and toddler group is likely to bring in up to £150. Around 30 youngsters, some pictured above, walked around the Gregson Lane cricket pitch three times. The cash will be used to buy equipment for the group, with some possibly going to the community centre
