11. Please find herewith a photo that may be of interest. It was taken in Lourdes in 1966, during the Lancaster Diocesan pilgrimage and shows the brancardiers (stretcher bearers) who, together with the handmaids (female helpers) assisted the nurses and doctors with the sick pilgrims. The pilgrimage, which included many from Preston and district, flew from Blackpool to Lourdes via Tarbes airport in south-west France. It was possibly the first Lancaster diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes to go by air rather than overland. Sent in by reader David Hughes
