Date announced for return of Longton Carnival after more than 20 years - here's how to get involved
Longton Carnival is coming back - more than 20 years after it last ran.
The newly-formed Longton Carnival Community Group has officially announced details of the inaugural procession - taking place on Saturday, May 16.
Embracing the nostalgic theme of "Through the Years," the event aims to reignite local pride and keep the incredible "community buzz" alive following the success of the Longton Winter Wonderland.
Emma Young, chair of Longton Carnival Community Group, said: “This ambitious revival has been made possible by the overwhelming support of residents, local businesses, the Longton Parish Council, and South Ribble Borough Council. A special surprise guest is set to officially open the festivities, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day.
“To our tireless volunteers: your time, commitment, and passion are what make this group so special—we truly couldn't do it without you.”
What to expect
Event details are being released in stages, but it is known that there will be a procession through Longton, a fairground, food and craft stalls, a dog show, a flower show, entertainment, and a Carnival ‘Royal Family’.
How to Get Involved
The organisers are now inviting the Western Parishes community to take an active role in making history. If you are interested in volunteering, applying for a stall, would like to perform or provide entertainment, or wish to enter a float or group into the procession or apply to be considered for the Longton Carnival royal family, they want to hear from you.
Additionally, the group is welcoming local businesses who would like to sponsor the event and help ensure its success.
